The Silent Majority: A Conservative's Campus Awakening
When I was a junior in college, I attended a semester exchange program at American University in Washington, DC.
As the lone vocal conservative Christian, I often found myself isolated in intense debates against the rest of the class.
At least that’s what it seemed like.
One day, after class, I had a conversation with a student named Chris on the way to lunch.
We had just wrapped up one of those debates, and he said, “Todd, you just have so much common sense.”
I replied, “Then why don’t you ever stand up and agree with me?”
He didn’t have a response, but I learned something that day.
There were 25 students - and perhaps only 5 were arguing against me.
Why did I assume the other 20 agreed with them?
Perhaps they agreed with me.
