This Is Why Everything Is Political

Everything in the world has become political.

It’s unfortunate, but true. What you eat. What you drink. What you drive. What you wear. Where you live. Where you work. In today’s highly volatile, politically-driven world, all of these things are viewed through a political prism.

And it would seem that politics has overtaken the world.

There are several reasons for this.

An Intense Election Year

First, we are in an election year. That alone makes politics the most obvious battlefield where our differences can be hammered out. (Take it easy, speech police: I’m only talking about a metaphorical battlefield.)

While it’s true that a fair amount of our fighting today is political in nature, that certainly doesn’t account for all of the discord.

Cultural Divisions

This leads to the second point: we’re fighting about our American culture

Politics is downstream of culture.

That means that a person’s politics is, at least in part, predicated upon their view of culturally accepted norms.

For example, if you believe it is culturally acceptable for children to physically change their bodies to match their gender, it’s a virtual certainty that you’re a Democrat.

Likewise, if you are a supporter of the Second Amendment, chances are excellent you are a Republican.

However, disunity in America runs even deeper than our cultural differences.

Worldviews Are Colliding

This illustrates the third reason it’s so politically volatile in America today: there is a fundamental battle between two diametrically opposed worldviews.

One worldview embraces the truth that we are created by God with certain unalienable rights. And those rights include life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

This worldview holds that true justice is the purpose of government. That the rule of law should be revered. And that we are equal under the law, but that our government cannot and should not guarantee equity.

The other worldview seeks to create an explanation for the existence of the universe that, somehow, doesn’t require a Creator. It teaches that we are a cosmic accident. And that the purpose of government is to create, from scratch, a framework and a system that addresses every need of humanity.

This worldview insists that government is the ultimate authority in life and that the ruling class has the power to dictate its decrees over the citizenry.

Truth is relative in this worldview. Nuanced. Never objective … that is, unless it’s advantageous to disciples of this worldview to argue that it is.

At the core of our disagreements in America is the stark reality that we are operating from two distinctive and completely incompatible worldviews.

A Cold Civil War

So we find ourselves embroiled in what I call a ‘cold civil war.’

Much like the Cold War America fought against Soviet Communism in the 20th Century, this battle isn’t taking place on a traditional battlefield.

It isn’t a hot war zone.

Instead, we find ourselves fighting over narratives. Information. Truth.

Sure, these fights can be intense and even exhausting for many Americans to endure day in and day out. (That’s part of the strategy, by the way.)

But we can still largely go about our day-to-day lives as usual. We are aware the battle is raging, but things aren’t bad enough to completely shut down our normal lives.

At least not yet.

As it now stands, it’s more of an emotional burden than an objective obstacle.

Yet it rages on.

A Spiritual Awakening

My friends, at the very core of this ‘cold civil war’ lies this uncomfortable truth: America is in a severe spiritual crisis.

This nation has experienced several spiritual awakenings throughout her history.

And she is in desperate need of another.

Now.

The chasm between these two diametrically opposed worldviews is irreconcilable, leaving us with one unavoidable truth: one of these worldviews must prevail in order for America to unify and heal.

There is no room for these two worldviews to coexist as major influences on American politics and culture today. As such, there is no opportunity for compromise – meaning there is no easy way out of this mess.

Now, I want you to take heart, my friends. As I’ve said before, and will state again here, I do believe that 80% of Americans agree with 80% of what I say on our program.

There is plenty of agreement between average Americans today.

But far too many are playing footsie with the morally bankrupt worldview of the Radical Left.

This modern despotism is subtly being peddled on the American people. Pervasively. Insidiously.

A spiritual awakening will enable those currently hypnotized by the Radical Left’s siren song to see it for the absolute abomination it is.

Are we prepared to take the hard but necessary steps to see God usher in a spiritual awakening first in our lives – and only then in the lives of others?

I sure hope so.

How tragic it would be if our answer was “no.”

Conservative, not bitter.
