The Myth of 'Free' Government Programs: A Conservative Truth

My friends, where do people think government’s money comes from?

I recently spoke with someone who lived in Europe.

This person said one of their government programs was “free.”

I said, “Someone paid for that.”

They responded, “I don’t think so. They don’t pay taxes.”

Government produces nothing, my friends.

The taxpayer produces everything.

And the government confiscates taxes from that production.

This is where the government’s money comes from.

There is a legitimate role for the government.

And levying a small, reasonable tax designed to support the operation of a limited, efficient government is justifiable through the consent of the governed.

But let us nix the idea that things are free and that the government is using its own money.

It’s using the only money it has.
