Christmas: A Gift Meant for Everyone

Whether I’m writing this column or broadcasting our daily radio show, my mission is the same: to help others hear and receive truth.

Now, I know you may be tempted, my friends, to think that I’ve got it all figured out. It can certainly seem that way, I’m sure.

But, in all seriousness, I don’t have it all figured out. None of us do.

That’s why, when truth is revealed to us, it’s critical that we cling to it. Share it. Articulate it. Hammer it home so that the next generation cannot only identify it and understand it, but also build upon it.

When we don’t do these things, the absence of truth creates a void that will be filled by lies. Destructive, dangerous lies.

All of the ideas and principles we talk about in this column and on our show are important. When we embrace any truth, no matter how small it may seem, we are laying a solid foundation upon which we can confidently build our lives, culture, and economy.

And, conversely, when we don’t do that, these things begin to crumble.

In spite of this, ours is a world where truth is often rejected, maligned, and, yes, even mocked.

As I’ve matured, I’ve realized that some simply do not want to accept the truth. After all, truth requires that we accept some very uncomfortable things about ourselves, namely that we all fall miserably short of the mark.

So, if I was given the choice of deciding which single truth a person should come to grips with and accept above all others, it would be this: that Jesus came into this world so that we could, through Him, be reconciled to God the Father.

My friends, the Christmas story is the beginning of the most important series of events in history.

The story supersedes everything else in existence. I mean, literally, everything.

Think about that for just a moment, will you?

All of us – you, me, and everyone else in human history – have broken the moral law. We’ve rebelled against our Creator. We’ve been proud. Selfish. Sinful.

We know this, deep down, regardless of what the self-help gurus may say. Regardless of the lies we tell ourselves. Regardless of our feeble attempts to win God’s approval.

We are simply incapable of reconciling with God on our own.

But thankfully, God didn’t leave it up to us to fix. He didn’t abandon us. He didn’t leave us to our own devices.

Instead, He came. To earth. As a baby. So that we may live.

My friends, I used to say, “I don’t care about what you believe.” And in one sense, that’s very true.

You have your own thoughts, opinions, values, personality, priorities and freedom. I absolutely, unequivocally believe that.

But, in another sense, I do care what you believe. What kind of person would I be if I was content with another person believing lies? Sure, that’s ultimately something I have no control over. And I’m ultimately not responsible for anyone else.

Still, in another sense, if we’re convicted and know the truth about a particular matter, do we not have some sort of moral responsibility to share it with others?

I certainly think so.

Jesus came for you that Christmas morning, my friend. He came for you whether you are a Democrat or a Republican. Conservative or Leftist. Male or female.

He came for you regardless of your race, ethnicity, religion, culture, worldview, family situation – any of it.

And as I shared previously, Jesus did far more than simply come for you. He died for you, my friend.

Nothing in all of creation remotely compares to this truth.

Our relationship with God was broken by our sin. We could not fix it. So God the Father sent His One and Only Son, Jesus, to fix it.

So He came to us that Christmas morning over 2,000 years ago.

He lived a perfect, sinless life.

He died a sacrificial death in our place.

And He rose again, so that we could once again have life and hope.

I hope you know that the story of Christmas is for you, my friend. It’s for all of us.

Jesus told His disciples in John 14:6 that, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

I’m so happy that you have joined me on this truth-seeking journey. And as we enter this Christmas season, I hope you’ll recognize, perhaps for the very first time, that Jesus Christ is, in fact, The Truth – and your Savior.

But even if you don’t, I hope you continue with me on this journey.

Merry Christmas, my friends. To God be the glory.

Conservative, not bitter.
