United by Borders: What We Share in the Immigration Debate

My friends, there's no denying it: America stands at a crossroads, deeply divided along ideological lines. At the heart of this division are two opposing worldviews. On one side, we champion individual liberty, while on the other, we witness an unwavering commitment to big, bloated, and inefficient government. But let me tell you this, my friends, beneath the surface of these divisions lies a truth that the professional propagandists and political dividers don't want us to see.

The manipulative forces of media, big tech, and the other Pillars of Propaganda have masterfully amplified the voices of one group while suppressing the other. This has led many to falsely believe that common ground among everyday Americans is nearly extinct. However, this couldn't be further from the truth.

Perhaps nowhere is this shared ground more evident than in our collective stance on illegal immigration. According to a Cato Institute survey, a whopping 71% of Americans find illegal immigration 'unacceptable.' But if you want to see that number skyrocket even more, just ask average, everyday Americans how they feel about completely disregarding immigration laws and throwing open our borders.

Such a radical stance is only supported by the most extreme among us, and for good reason. Consider the litany of dangers associated with an open, lawless border.

For starters, let’s talk about the drugs. It's no secret that drugs flow across the southern border in staggering quantities. According to Reuters, the five most frequently seized drugs by agents are marijuana, methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl—a deadly cocktail if there ever was one.

And where there are drugs, there are drug cartels. These criminal organizations thrive in the chaos south of the border, bringing with them a tide of violence, including rape, sexual assault, gun crimes, and even murder.

Then there's the scourge of human trafficking. With a godless, evil pursuit of money as their only motive, violent cartel figures are driven to illegally traffic women and children, perpetrating an absolutely reprehensible evil that deserves far more attention than it currently receives in the media.

Add to this the reality that some illegal immigrants commit violent crimes against Americans once they pass over the border, it becomes obvious that the perils arising from an insecure, lawless border are apparent to anyone who cares to see.

Thankfully, the majority of Americans are paying attention. That's precisely why 71% of Americans view illegal immigration as 'unacceptable.'

But for those who still consider it acceptable, there are a few reasons behind this highly illogical stance.

Some have fully embraced the godless ideology of the Radical Left. They have accepted its phony talking points, lies, and reliance on identity politics. They have also, for some unknown reason, fallen victim to the Left’s very, very bad political theater.

Others are blinded by unflinching loyalty to their political party or consumed by hatred for certain individuals or groups, such as Donald Trump, conservatives, or the Republican Party.

And then there are those who simply remain unaware of the true extent of the problem. Make no mistake; the media still wields significant influence over many of its consumers. The way the media frames an issue or hides the truth continues to shape public opinion more than we'd like to admit.

Without the veil of deception and sophistry, I have little doubt that the number of people who find illegal immigration unacceptable would soar above 80%.

Don't just take my word for it. Consider the voices on the Left who have spoken out against the catastrophic impact of unchecked illegal immigration on their own states and cities.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams, a Democrat and mayor of a sanctuary city, has warned that, "This issue will destroy New York City. Destroy New York City."

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, another Democrat and mayor of a sanctuary city, has expressed her fears, saying, "We live in a city that welcomes immigrants, and so I think we have been able to handle [illegal immigration], but I am fearful that any day planes [full of illegal immigrants] could start coming."

Even Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, also a Democrat and governor of a sanctuary state, wrote to President Bribery, stating that, "The federal government's lack of intervention and coordination at the border has created an untenable situation for Illinois."

And in an interview with CBS’ Face the Nation, New York Governor Kathy Hochul, another Democrat and governor of a sanctuary state, observed, “People coming from all over the world are finding their way through, simply saying they need asylum, and the majority of them seem to be ending up in the streets of New York, and that is a real problem for New York City.” She added, “It’s in our DNA to welcome immigrants. But there has to be some limits in place.”

These statements, coming from governors and mayors of blue cities and states that virtue signal as sanctuaries for illegal immigrants, underscore the undeniable truth: open borders are unsustainable for our cities, states, and federal government alike.

Let's be clear, reasonable people can disagree about the number of immigrants we should allow into our country each year and the types of immigration we should permit. However, one thing is abundantly clear: open borders enjoy support only from the most radical fringes, the uninformed, and the misinformed.

So, my friends, the truth is that we have already prevailed on the issue of illegal immigration. The challenge now lies in educating the masses, holding our elected officials accountable, and thwarting deceitful politicians who seek to dodge their responsibility in addressing this critical issue.

After all, keeping Americans divided and in the dark remains the politicians' greatest and most formidable skill. It's high time we shine a light on the truth and unite in defense of our nation's borders and the principles upon which it was founded.

And we had best do that before it’s too late.

Conservative, not bitter.
